Two years ago, Music By The Bay played host to the very first gig by a band so new that they hadn't yet settled on a name. Now it's Halali, the first two letters of their first names (in alphabetical order - both by first and last name). Tunes, songs, step-dancing. Irish, Scottish, Cape Breton, Quebecois, US contradance and old-time American music. Exciting and innovative arrangements played brilliantly with youthful enthusiasm and energy.
Hanneke Cassel won the U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship as a teenager a few years ago, is a graduate of the Berkley College of Music, tours with The Cathie Ryan Band, and has released her first solo CD. Lissa Schneckenburger is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, tours with Mad Pudding, and has recently released her second CD. Laura Cortese is about to graduate from Berkley College of Music, has studied with or played with Alasdair Fraser, Martin Hayes, Buddy MacMaster, Jerry Holland, etc.
Their first Music By The Bay concert was among the three most thrilling performances of the first hundred concerts.
